Carolyn Jean Simmons
Carolyn Jean Simmons entered a plea agreement on March 13, 2012.
12 months probation, 25 hours community service with animals, 25 hours community service with children, no posession or consumption of alcohol or drugs, no posession of animals, and $373 court costs and fines.
Simmons has no right to call herself a "caregiver," or "human."
On October 28, 2011, a concerned neighbor found a small child alone near a stop sign. After watching the child for 15 minutes - and witnessing the child nearly wander into traffic - the neighbor scooped up the child and went to the residence where she was staying at. The neighbor knocked at the door and couldn't locate any adults inside. The police were called.
Officers tried unsuccessfully to summon anyone to the door. Upon entering, Carolyn Jean Simmons was found asleep (aka "passed out") and was completely unaware that the child trusted to her care, as well as her own 4 year old daughter, wasn't in the house. Officers continued to inspect the house, which was filthy, covered in urine and feces, and found an extremely emaciated dog. Simmons admitted the dog was hers, but she had no idea why it was so malnourished but hadn't bothered to take the dog to a vet.
The court has found Carolyn Jean Simmons "indigent." This means that she will not pay any money for court costs, fines, etc.
