Pearl Derroch
Pearl Derroch entered a plea agreement, July 2011.
Derroch was adjudicated guilty, and was sentenced to 36 months probation with a monthly monitoring fee of $52. In addition, she received a total of $1,370.19 court costs. During her probation, Pearl Derroch cannot "own or posess" any animals.
However, Derroch may end up not paying any fines if she delares indigent status, and the court agrees. She has the entire 36 months of her probation to pay her fines - or to declare herself indigent. Given this entire situation was the result of her eviction from foreclosure... it's unlikely she will pay anything.
You can read a copy of the actual plea agreement at the bottom of this page.
Pearl Derroch was facing a new reality that many people are going through - and she made some very poor decisions.
She is facing charges stemming from June 2010 incidents.
Derroch was facing foreclosure on her property in Milton. She moved out, leaving the house covered in garbage. The utilities were shut off in October 2009. She also left behind her pets: two dogs and two cats. Santa Rosa County Animal Control first responded to a complaint that Derroch had abandoned her animals in May 2010. She supposedly came by "once a week" to feed the animals.
By the time that ACO entered the house on June 2, 2010, one dog was dead. Santa Rosa County seized two cats who were found alive. Derroch had not cared for the dogs and cats since May 17. The dogs and cats were left for ovr two weeks, without food or water, stuck inside a house without air conditioning. There were no open windows to let fresh air inside, or to escape to stench of urine, feces, and decay.
